Reading Response -Topic 5; Telling Stories (Narrative)
Generations of poets have devised countless additional ways to harvest the expressive potential of words. We draw upon their denotative and connotative meanings; their sounds, in or out of structured meters; their enjambment across lines; their spatial arrangement on the page… Every last aspect of language is there for the poet to use, break, reinvent.
The use of images the way other kinds of writing use words. The placement of two or more images next to each other, and some semiotic impulse that our minds can’t help but connect them.
I didn't necessarily think of poetry as juxtaposition. I always define poetry as a way to arrange words in a almost musical way, often but not necessarily, romanticizing the message behind it.
I would say depends on paintings visual message towards the goal. If for example the subject are people, would depend on their actions, there would have to be some type of interaction , their expression, the body language, the overall mood, the color palette, this things individually can cause the painting's perception as cosmic poetry.
Comics poetry should balance freight between image and words. These elements are only doing work if they’re changing each other. Duplication is deadweight.
I, in part agree with the statement of "Art is an empathy engine" because I do believe that as artist there is a certain level of relationship with our world but I also believe some have the desire to create works of imagination unrelated to all you personally know. Some audiences have the desire to experience something completely unrelated to what they are used to in their everyday life. A new experience unrelated to our world.
"Marion Fayolle depicts a male figure approaching the frame of a mirror. He and his reflection approach each other, bend toward each other, touch. A female figure joins the dance, bends to lift a stone, shatters the mirror and the first figure in one throw. Other female figures join her; they pick up the pieces and reassemble them as collages, reframed in a setting suggesting a gallery."
The way this piece is arranged as a sequence in a left to right order makes it easy to read, sense we read in the same order. The series of events are almost story like to me me. The overall message I am reading is that women think and act in a dipper abstracted way , unlike men whom think and seen logically and literally. Considering only male figure dressed almost monochromaticaly, contrasting the women which are more diverse in style and race. The fact of admiring the final works they created makes them seem as if they are also mor observant. They take the normal, break it , recycle it and make a new way of depiction.
