FIU WOLFSONIAN: North and South - Berenice Abbott's U.S Route 1

This exhibition in the Wolfsonia Museum was my favorite of all the exhibits. Is an exhibition of photographs by the photographer Berenice Abbott who set off from New York with two companions to drive the length of U.S Route 1. It consisted of 50 works from the journey. In her journey  she experienced different cultures and traditions alone the east coast. She documente architecture, culture and individuals portraits in the 1950s.

In most of her photos she often juxtaposed the scenarios giving her audience two points of views whether it was culturaly, politicaly, or statically. One of my personal favorite works is "The Cars". Cars at the time where becoming an innovation to the American life and how she new American lifes were slowly but surely revolving aroun the automobile. As we entered a new life style she made surw to document how parks and other landscapes became parking lots and places to station your vehicle. This exhibition inspired me seens i aspire to do something similar on a road trip. I want to be able to capture the places I visit in their true sense. And even maybe someday my work would make history and be exhibit as this artist work!
