Response to Outside Visits : Spots, Dots , Pipts Tiles Exhibition at PAMM.
First of all I think their goal was to spread culture. The whole exhibition is based on the very popular game called dominos which its very common on Latin American culture. Another goal would be the use of different mediums and sizes to give a sense of variety, as if it was trying to express how different countries play in their own cultural way. Another goal would be to give the sense of how playing dominoes feels like.As an example of portraying how it feels like to play dominoes there was a video that gave the whole exhibit the sound of the domino effect. Another example and my personal favorite was a serious of photographs that connected the dominos pieces and in a sense explained the game (the men posing represented movement).
The photography of Robin Rhode stood out to me because I never seen anything like it before, the way he positioned the photographs to connect the domino game, the fact that there was a person that gave movement to each individual piece as if he was the one who put the pieces down in the game. Edna Soto & Dan Sullivan piece "DominoDomino" was one of the pieces that felt like it put the whole exhibition together, like the glue that connects all works to form an extraordinary collection of artwork because what is Dominoes without a domino table. It also gave the audience an experience of presence in the moment. I could say is the most sophisticated dominoes game in such a refine design table I ever played. I appreciate that it gave an experience and when a person personally experiences a feeling they are most likely to remember that particular exhibit.I might be bias because it brings me back to a game that it's part of my culture. After I left the exhibition I defiantly wanted to keep playing dominoes. The sound around the art work was very pleasing to listen to setting the mood of the gallery and I think that was very important for a successful exhibition.
