Topic 6: The Art Universe and Miami Art Week
I attended to Fair and Volunteered at Casa Lin
I unfortunately couldn't attend any other day. I was planning to go to Pulse on Saturday morning that was free for Florida Residents but seens the exhibition was outdoors, the bad weather didn't allow it.
The Future is Female exhibition truly inspired me. I would really like in the near future to create more work to inspire women and too see other artists doing that in such controversial pieces instantly caught my attention.
One of the pieces in the Fair was the "Wish Tree " by Yoko One was a special piece to interact with. In which the audience had the opportunity to write a wish and put it on the tree. The people that I visit it with and I contribute it and it was a pretty cool thing to contribute to. It gives a sense of hope and makes people feel important when you are inviting them to write something personal about themselves.
As far as change in my surroundings there was a more security on the area since there was a lot more tourists coming to town. There where also spaces with temporary installations and a lot more people walking in the streets.
I can't see to recall any sponsored interventions, but I did see a lot more advertising in thought the city.
Commerce was not only advertised but included on the artwork. Also when referring to commerce we must take into account that a lot of the art work on Miami Art Week was up for sale, making the art itself a product of merchandise, often reproduced in prints too.
There where definitely a lot of tourist in the area this week as I mentioned above. But as far as different types of individuals I would be objectifying people by the way they dressed if talking about types of people. Some dressed fancy and drank wine, some dressed with different fabrics that didn't match and drank beer.
The art workers where very emphasized on making sure the space for the exhibition was working properly and no one was disturbing the work. The consumers where wandering around, circulating the space a lot more and asking questions.
I only attended to two shows Casa Lin which Dear Don curated and Fair which there wasn't a lot of people around and the only people I witnessed where guarding the exhibition.
I definitely want to keep trying to find my voice true visuals and make my work express a message since the works I love the most had the same impact on me as I want people to feel when the experience mine.
Having people remember by piece, having a message that in some way could literally touch their souls or make them laugh.
